Sacred Forest Audition: Epilogue
Yeah.
So that’s how it all began.
Two kids up against a world of hurt.
To be honest, I didn't think they'd do it. Rei- well, she's a tough girl, but she knows her limits.
Guess she's really burning to see again.
Can't blame her.
She's strong. Doesn't matter that her bones are weak and her skin is cut and her eyes are no good.
She's got spirit. If this tunnel's got an end, she's gonna' find it.
And as long as she's got Sam at her side, they're gonna' be alright.
Yeah, that's right.
Right?

Rei let out her breath.
“It’s safe,” she said.
Sam crawled out from beneath his blanket, trembling with cold and fear in equal measure. He raced to Rei’s side and seized hold of her arm.
“It’s okay,” she whispered as she wrapped her free arm around his narrow shoulders. “It’s gone now.”
Sam just held on tighter.
“It’s still here,” he whimpered.
Rei peered about, but saw no sign of the creature.
“There’s nothing here,” she said.
Sam gestured wildly at the forest. Rei turned and approached where he pointed. As she drew near, she noticed Derca

The dire fox drew near. Eye-light markings adorned its hind legs. An unfathomable look filled its gaze.
Rei couldn’t see any of this, to tell the truth.
“Who are you?” she asked.
“Drop your blade,” spoke the fox. Its very voice shook the earth beneath Rei’s feet.
She let the notched dagger slip from her bony hands.
“What brings you to my domain, child?” asked the creature. It tilted its massive head ever so slightly to the side.
“We’re- we’re lost,” said Rei.
The clouds broke, casting silver moonlight across Rei’s face.
“You’re of my kind, no?&rdqu

Through the dark forest stole twin silhouettes.
They wove through knotted roots and drooping branches, clutching each other’s frail hands ever so tightly.
The woods buzzed like an eager crowd.
The taller of the two lead the way. She navigated the darkness with surprising ease, scrambling over fallen logs and picking her way through dense brambles.
A small clearing opened up before them as the canopy parted like curtains. The two figures stepped out into the moonlight. They had the features of foxes, but stood like children.
“Can we stop for a bit, Rei?” asked the shorter of the pair.
“I guess,” said the girl

Sacred Forest Audition: Prologue
Got the time for a tale?
Good.
Now listen. This here’s a story about two kids.
Nobody should have to go through what they did.
Poor things.
They've been on the run for a long time. They'd try to find their way home, but nobody wants them there. They'd try to find their friends, but they ain't got none anymore. They'd go back there, but that'd be madness.
They've got nothing at all, to tell the truth. Life’s beaten them senseless and left them to die.
All they’ve got left is each other.
Seems like nothing can break their spirits.
But still, I’ve got to wonder- are they ever gonna' find the light at the end of t

Avonna was looking at a soda machine when Familiar appeared out of nothing much.
"Avonna we're not being soda."
Avonna punched the coke box. It loosed an inaudible scream of torment and fury.
"But Avonna™ we don't have any money because you spent it all on high quality imported European cheeses next week."
"Why should the focus of our discussion be upon coin, the source of most, if not all, societal evils? Should we not instead consider the grand benefits of the acquisition of a cylindrical device which contains a measured quantity of caramel-colored flavored beverage?"
Juts then the Pepsi cube turned into the Thief and he laughed b

Adventures in Tandem Writing
A heavy rain fell from the ashen sky, blotting out the late afternoon sunlight. Below lay a sprawling industrial complex, strewn with miles of gray pipe and concrete. Smoke billowed from massive towers, fading away into the clouds. A handful of cars drove about, shuffling from place to place at a tedious pace.
Meanwhile, Carl sat in orbit chomping on milk chocolate Hershey bars and listening to the Ghost Busters theme song on the radio. He was the first man accidentally sent into space inside a television satellite, and as a professional couch potato, he couldn't be happier.
Back on the surface, Mark stepped out of his car, slamming the doo

Five Minutes Earlier
Two gunshots rung out, echoing through the streets of a sleepy town. Lights snapped on in the shuttered windows. A woman screamed. Shouts pierced the air. Two more loud cracks fired off.
Then, there was silence.
Five minutes earlier, a man stood at a street corner. His hands hung lazily in the pockets of his gray hoodie. A layer of stubble coated his slightly tanned face, much of which hid under the hood.
Four minutes earlier, he crossed the street, moving quickly despite the utter lack of traffic. He seemed anxious. His hands remained jammed in his coat pockets. A bead of sweat hovered on his brow. The hoodie didn't help. Warm, moist air
Trey stared up at the dull ceiling as he lay in his bed, stricken by a strange sense of dread. The reptilian man groaned and stretched his scaly arms wide, sliding off the bed and onto his feet. He stumbled to a small window, looking out upon the rolling forests that surrounded his small cabin. The hills rose and fell like waves frozen in time, glowing softly under the light of the ethereal moon.
All seemed at ease, yet he could not help but feel an indescribable worry. He walked to the doorway and peeked out into the stairwell. The heavy darkness obscured the lower floor. He returned to his bedroom and picked up a small oil lantern, strikin

Ughhh haha, I didn't expect this much feedback.. er please read this before reading this.

If you have the guts I didn't, to watch the whole video,
then even if you stopped halfway, you'll see the eyes of a raccoon dog, skinned alive, stare into the camera, while clinging to its hopeless life.
For clarification, I am not in anyway a supporter nor am I affiliated with PETA.
:thumb380071082: So if PETA is another concern and problem, then it's just another one we'll have to fix.
And yes, this specific one is staged, but my point isn't that this is how people skin animals, it's that these a
Things fall apart real quick.
First off: ~Cloudbat (https://www.deviantart.com/cloudbat) :iconreverendaspen: :iconcorvusraven: - you are all amazing people and have my deepest thanks. You carried on where I failed. I couldn't have asked for a better lot.
But that ain't enough to fix what's left undone.
I've not been depressed or sad or angry or lonely. If anything, I've been doing pretty well for someone weathering college.
I've just been- what's the word- distant? Afraid to take the first step to a return?
Yeah, that's the word.
In hindsight, I oughta' have seen this coming. I become frightened of my own failures right quick, and it's all too easy to get stuck in one
It sure has been quiet.
First of all, I'd like to apologize to my opponent in Sacred Forest for going completely silent about the entire OCT. The same goes for those in Tourist Trap.
See, I've barely been online and haven't communicated much at all. There're two reasons for this.
One, I've just begun my studies as a chemist at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, which immediately smacked me into the ground (18 hour schedules are cruel). My free time has been limited to a few hours a day at best.
That's not the real issue, though. My motivation's shriveled up and died. I can't write.
I've got things circling around in my head, but th
It's been quiet for a while, hasn't it?
Might as well make some noise.

Spawned from the tedium of a winter snowstorm, this beast-only OCT has been two months in the making. Our duo of judges- CorvusRaven (https://www.deviantart.com/corvusraven), and Cloudbat (https://www.deviantart.com/cloudbat), as well as ReverendAspen (https://www.deviantart.com/reverendaspen), our assistant, have been collaborating to smooth out the rough bits and get this thing in gear.
Auditions are open until June 15th. We're quite eager to get underway, so feel free to direct any questions you have to us.
Just don't get lost on your way.
The lonely road leads to oblivion.
